raymond haas, uwf business center namesake, remembered
Raymond Haas, major contributor and namesake of the University of West Florida Haas Center for Business Research and Economic Development, passed away Feb. 16, 2003. He was 87-years old. A community leader and philanthropist, Haas is remembered for his contributions to the university and support of Baptist Health Care Foundation.
"He was a good and generous man," said Dean Ed Ranelli of the College of Business. "He will be long remembered for his generosity and good deeds."
Giving more than a quarter million dollars to UWF's center, Haas helped the university become a key provider of business research in Northwest Florida. He also made contributions to Baptist Health Care, which memorialized Haas by renaming its wound care center in his honor. A member of the Pensacola community since 1990, Haas was involved with the Gulf Coast Council of the Boy Scouts of America, the University of West Florida Foundation and St. Luke United Methodist Church. His many achievements include being named the 1999 Escambia County "Philanthropist of the Year."
"Haas was such a generous man with a brilliant mind," said Martha Lee Blodgett, director of Planned Giving. "He will be remembered for his philanthropy, his service to the UWF Foundation and his support of education, the university and ultimately, the region. We are fortunate to have known both Mr. and Mrs. Haas and to have had their support."
